June 2016

Harmonize boys’ football team was victorious after winning the EBD double this year. Consistent play and great teamwork in the autumn, spring and summer inter-school tournaments confirmed the league title. Great performances in the cup semi-final, 8-0 against Newfield and in the final, beating Cloughwood 7-0, brought home the Joe Burns Shield for the second year. Coaches and TAs, Neal King and Liam McNab, were delighted that the team had upped their game and given newcomers, Declan, Kenny and Leon plenty of goal-scoring chances.

Sports and Fitness Curriculum

Harmonize Academy’s alternative curriculum provides daily opportunities for sports and fitness activities.

Dance is a core part of the Urban Arts curriculum and enables students to build up a portfolio towards a Performing Arts GCSE / Performance Skills certificate. Circus Skills are also taught as part of the performance lessons which gives students further opportunity for physical expression.

Football, badminton, basketball, gym/boxing exercises and table-tennis are available for students to get involved with during afternoon enrichment sessions. Individual fitness sessions take place in the school fitness suite.

Harmonize Academy has a boys and a girls football team who undertake weekly training and regularly take part in inter-schools tournaments and local league matches. In summer 2015, the boys' team won the Joe Burns Shield in a competition for local schools.

Students also travel regularly to local sports facilities to participate in activities such as horse-riding, golf, rock climbing, water sports and indoor skiing which offer new opportunities to try pursuits which they may not have experienced before.

These activities help to motivate students, build their confidence and team spirit as well as develop an understanding of the benefits of personal fitness.

Liverpool based UK Military School ran a short course at Harmonize during the summer term 2014. The ex-Army personnel delivered a range of physical and mental challenges. The aim of the activities was to instill character and values such as, empathy, collaboration and team-building.
